What blog has (a) been around six years, (2) is written in English but comes from a European country, (iii) has an ISSN and (d) has as its slogan “Essence, effervescence, obscurity”? In this case, the answer actually is in the chapter discussed here–Chapter 12, Liblog Profiles, which makes up somewhat more than half of The Liblog Landscape 2007-......

the internet connects us all
Post Source: tamworthlibrary.org

It seems that nearly every day, I hear another story about how people are making connections using the Internet. it doesn’t matter whether people are 10 or 10,000 miles apart, the miles make no difference anymore. With a computer and a fast connection - say, at your public library - the world is your oyster. Here’s a story recently told by Ethan Zuckerman of Global Voices and blogg......

Take a look: http://www .swissarmy librarian. net/2008/1 1/13/what- is-necessa ry-what-is -possible Not that any of this is rocket science, or isn’t discernible by anyone else that works in a library. I think I did this as an exercise to illustrate patron-centricness. When it comes to library services, ever......

Tomorrow is Election Day.  While the Presidential Election is well-publicized, if you’re like me you may find it hard to find information on the other elections and ballot-initiatives that are taking place.  Here are a few resources I’ve found and I hope this may help any readers in making informed decisions when voting. Imagine Election - for Masachusetts voters, creates a web ......

work like a patron day october 15
Post Source: hermenaut.org

I’m at work today, not at the library but at the pool. The pool always goes through a lot of soul searching deciding whether to be open on minor holidays like US Columbus Day. The big rift is this: it’s a holiday so lifeguards and building managers would like a holiday. It’s also a holiday so the people who would be swimming have the day off and might want to use the pool. ItR......

life as a library patron
Post Source: shapinglibraries.wordpress.com

Brian Herzog at Swiss Army Librarian has come up with an interesting concept: Work Like a Patron Day . Basically, Herzog recommends doing as much as possible the way a patron does things, including using the public entrance and public computers. He has designated October 15th the day. Following the trail of patron usage could help us know where service, technology, or access breaks down. Wo......

Brian has a few suggestions for other places to go online to ask questions or read other people’s answers . As you probably know, I work for Ask MetaFilter and I’m pretty happy with how it all works out, getting people answers to their questions. I’ve asked thirty questions there myself. Here’s a screenshot of what I think is a pretty usual list of questions .......

the public access computer problem
Post Source: feeds.feedburner.com

Since the 1990s, public libraries have provided computers with Internet access. The introduction of this new service has brought more people into the library and more people using all of the library’s services. It is a great and vital service for communities around the world. One problem that libraries have is that they don’t keep up with these machines, neither in replacing old machin......

One of the choicest bits: We’re not doctors, we’re not lawyers, and we can’t compare library school with law or medical school. We don’t have a monopoly on intellectual freedom or finding information. In some cases, sure, a MLS adds value [but] there are also MLS librarians who spe......
