roasted woodpigeon Post Source: feeds.feedburner.com Posted: Nov 30 2008 12:25:10
Being a massive fan of feathered game - partridge, quail, grouse, et al - the prospect of featuring a ’roast’ for this months Waiter left no other option! The advantage of woodpigeon is its price, (you can get an oven readybird for just £2 each) so much more reasonable than duck and the others.
Woodpigeon flesh is darker and moderately deep in flavour but they have a te...... [Show More]

I love wine and do drink from time to time. The best wine drinking experience for me was at Les Jardin des Sens - my first ever dining experience at a Michelin-star restaurant. Each dish on the menu came with nicely paired wine from wine regions all over in France! Ever since this experience, I have been thinking what a great knowledge it is to be able to pair wine to a dish. It’s ...... [Show More]

St. Clement - the patron saint of blacksmiths, killed in the 4th century by being thrown into the sea, tied to an anchor. November 23rd is the feast day of St. Clement. If you happen to be a blacksmith you should be parading around the countryside carrying an effigy of ’Old Clem’ and collecting alms (&rsqu o;clementi ng’& #41; for the feast. Now subsumed into Guy Fawkes and Hall...... [Show More]

"Tis the season to be be jolly!"
Yes - we are headed towards the end of the year and for me as soon as Halloween is tucked away back in the dungeons, I put all my focus into Thanksgiving and Christmas. Probably it’s the same with many of you.

Luckily the small depth of field has blurred out the dirty smear on the saucers and you can’t really see the grubby marks on the cafateire either. Rather pleased with the photo so thought it deserved a place here, in full-sized glory, rather than remaining hidden on The Foodie List . What I need now is a decent recipe to recreate these lovely little blighters... the on-line recipes a five m...... [Show More]
Apart from the occassional trout and the odd tin of tuna, I don’t eat much fish. The worry being caught with an endangered species is the main reason. Mackerel at least is sustainable. Being rich and oily good for you too....... [Show More]
* Lao-Ocean Girl has a review of Star Chef restaurant in Seoul, Korea. It looks mouth-wateringly delicious.
* I love the sound of these vanilla-poached quinces from Spittoon Extra. Best of all that the fruit was free! Here in the northern hemisphere it’s definitely the season for cooked fruit desserts - we had baked apples and marscapone last night. Heavenly!

Another stroll, more wintry this week, through Brightwell. A couple of buckets outside Sotwell Manor sit either side of a hand-scrawled sign ’Quince - help yourself’. So I did. Fourteen prized specimens were slipped into the bag. And, in case you’re thinking ’gre edy’ , let me assure you that there were plenty remaining. Like last weeks windfall apples certainly not up...... [Show More]
They can’t be described as perfect specimens - battered, pot-marked, scratched and pitted; the aptly named Bramley Cottage offered them via a cut down giant washing powder box, further down Wychmore House offered a smaller pile in a covetable wooden crate; windfall cooking apples appear plentiful this year. Bulging pockets revealed my greed. Several of the larger, less damaged apples, dest...... [Show More]

A social visit from the blog-god was greatly anticipated - would he think to bring some wine, thought I? A cheeky little red Burgundy perhaps or a critic-applauded Chardonnay? Maybe even a bottle of bubbly; knowing his unquenchable love of the sparkly stuff from Champagne. Did he bring a bottle? Did he heck.
