i was looking at looking for topic blogs using technorati backlink checking entering urls in the search box. the automated cosmos query api shows equivalent info which can be used by programs.
to search for political blog posts i thought of entering urls for local newspapers. the bulk of the posts found were splogs or automated blogs with excerpts which link back to the newspapers.

when you have an api you cant just change its behaviour without telling anyonei cant find no recent changes notices. although the formatrss argument is intended so users can subscribe to a cosmosquery result via rss you cant just change the results you return on the element.
