Look, I can’t help it if others detected weakness and shakiness in the tenor of Barack Obama’s answers : For most of the debate Friday night, Sen. Barack Obama was the one who presented himself as presidential and strong. And Sen. John McCain appeared to be the guy who was wavering. Then came Iran. That’s when Obama’s mouth dried up, and he appeared to be standing alone at that terrible border between presenting yourself as presidential and deal... more

In an interview with Neil MacFarqhar of the NYT, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had the following exchange: NYT: On another subject, you are a Persian; you are not an Arab. Your country has never directly at least fought a war with Israel, and yet you seem obsessed by the Jews. Why? President Ahmadinejad: We have nothing to do with their business at all. Jewish people live in Iran; they have lived there historically. They have a representative in our Parliament. Although there are only 20,000 people... more

But never fear. Very soon now the President of the United States and the President of Iran will sit down, without preconditions, and hash this out, and clear everything up before Iraq turns fully into the Shi’ite client state that the Iranians covet. You may have heard that there was a primary in Texas today.  Caucus too, which is still going on in many places.  (Yes, I participated in both — reports are further down here .) This is also TAKS week, the week of the HIGH STAKES TESTING of our youngsters from 3rd grade through 11th or 12th.  The BIG test, English Language Arts, was originally scheduled for today, but was was moved to tomorrow statewide due to the importance of today’s primary and caucus.   Sounds reason... more

My precinct’s democratic caucus began exactly an hour ago and there are still hundreds of people lined up outside. I left early since the only people staying after they signed the sheet for their candidate are the ones who want to be delegates at the county or state level. Our caucus was very disorganized in the sense that none of the people in charge seemed to know how many tables they wanted or how they wanted us to file through the room. I went to vote around noon today at the local middle school, located in a predominantly white neighborhood. Many, many lawn signs at the edge of the grass, but Obama was the only one of the presidential candidates whose name was represented. Obama also had two organizers at the parking lot enrances and a large bus/truck out front. Inside, the process went smoothly with democratic voters outnumbering republican by 8:1. There were 11 voting booths, half empty, and only one at the prope... more
