As of Sunday, President Bush will have 100 days remaining in office.  If ever there was a time to rejoyce at a President departing it will be in January of 2009 when George W. Bush returns to Texas.  With his poll numbers now lower than Richard Nixon’s the day he resigned and approaching the all time low recorded during the Truman administration, the American people and frankly most of the world are ready for Bush’s exit. As for Bush himself, he’s got plenty to deal with before he passes the baton.  Bush has vowed there would be no “letting up” in the final 100 days, but I’m not sure exactly what that means for this President.  “It looks like I’m going to have a lot of work to do between today and when the new president takes office,” Bush said this past week .  Maybe if the President had been more engaged during his watch this could have been averted. Jacob Hornberger writes about the case of Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri , who has been locked up in South Carolina, in the same facility in which Jose Padilla (the American) was incarcerated and tortured. Here at The Future of Freedom Foundation, we have long argued against the assumption and exercise of the “enemy combatant” power, even with the right of habeas corpus. We have pointed out that those who were arguing that President Bush could be trusted with such power were misguided and... more

The Comeback Clinton
From: blog.iconflict.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 21:51:08

Just three days ago, Barack Obama looked ready to score a knock out blow in Texas and Ohio. It didn’t happen. Then came the 3AM phone commercials, the Resko trial , NAFTA debate s and of course Saturday Night Live. A combination of forces turned in favor of Senator Clinton. On Monday, Obama got roughed up by the media for the first time in the campaign. Something had changed. After months of largely getting a pass on tough questions, Obama seemed caught off guard ... more

If Hillary Clinton stumbled in Ohio, it would have meant more than a loss of delegates. It would have spelled the end of her campaign. Instead, she won an impressive victory . Now, all eyes turn to Texas, where a Clinton win would completely recast the democratic primary. addthis_url = ’http%3A%2F%2Fblog.iconflict.com%2Fcritical-win-as-clinton-takes-ohio%2F’; addthis_title = ’Critical+Win+as+Clinton+Takes+Ohio’; addthis_pub =... more

John McCain will be the Republican candidate for President. Tonight he secured the necessary delegates to win the nomination.   After he delivered his victory speech tonight, McCain will travel to DC where he will be formally endorsed by President Bush. “I have never believed I was destined be president,” McCain told supporters. “I don’t believe anyone is pre-destined to lead America. But I do believe we are born with responsibilities to the country that ha... more

Only in the media environment of today could a comedy show alter the course of a presidential election. Since the 1970’s Saturday Night Live has been parodying U.S. Presidents and revealing something about their personality or character. During his 2000 White House race, Al Gore’s aides showed him clips of Darrell Hammond’s spot-on parody, to demonstrate that Gore needed to be more loose on the campaign trail. But in the most recent parody on politics, it is the pres... more
