The reading at Quimby’s was a blast! I got to the neighborhood an hour early, so I wandered around for a bit -- there’s a hair salon called Art & Science I might go back to try... ...and a bookstore called Myopia, where I splurged on three manga (two volumes of Fake and You Higuri’s Gorgeous Carat ) and Ogai Mori’s Vita Sexualis )... and then headed the wrong way down two other streets before finding Q’s.

Squee #1: A friend composed a Climpson/Copley Wimsey-ficlet for me earlier this month. I’ll link to it as soon as she posts it to her journal. Squee #2: I am - I think! - within 500 words of finally finishing my SnuSa fic. (And I’ve probably just jinxed myself, considering every time I thought I’d nailed something within this story, something else wriggled into view. But there’s next to no time left, and I’ve managed to convince myself that several of the lines...

Opening sentence of Quidditch Through the Ages : No spell yet devised enables wizards to fly unaided in human form. Initial reaction: either the narrator of QTtA or DH is unreliable Follow-up reaction: HP Lexicon lists the publication year of QTtA as 1952. Watsonian interpretation: Snape devised his flying spell sometime af...

When do we just get to be good at it?" I’ll only bore you with one theory: because every good story needs to be completely personal (so there are no guidelines) and completely universal (so it’s all been done). It’s just nev...

I’ve started working on a paper on the presence of Harry Potter references in religious worship. I’ve come across an assortment of sermons online that mention some aspect of the Potterverse -- some in response to the books, and others reacting to the cultural phenomenon -- and I’d like to study more than just the ones that happen to show up via Google. I’m planning to focus on Unitarian Universalist and Jewish sermons. I’d also love to hear about the Harry Potte...
