When attorney Xia Zhao was shot to death Tuesday, a California murder case from 2003 spun off in a tragic new direction. Police arrested Jason Cai, 49, and booked him on a homicide charge in connection with Zhao’s death. Zhao and other attorneys had been litigating a wrongful death case against Cai in connection with the 2003 killing. With Cai likely to face murder charges again, some in the legal community said prosecutors might have trouble getting into evidence the past accusations against him.
