October 10 MSNBC - N.Y. Times reports preliminary talks; Wall Street Journal says talks on hold. General Motors has held discussions about acquiring Chrysler, The New York Times and Wall Street Journal reported late Friday. The talks between GM and Cerberus Capital Management, which owns Chrysler, began more than a month ago, the Times reported on its Web site. The Journal reported that the talks were "rendered inactive" because of the upheaval in financial markets but that people familiar with the developments said the talks could be revived quickly if markets stabilize.

Muslims and the environment: Critics slag government report declaring bisphenol A safe

Arbitrary, selective and rigged studies: One study used a strain of rat that was insensitive to the effects of estrogen, and therefore wouldn’t detect bisphenol A. Early onset of puberty, especially in girls, is one risk factor of bisphenol A. What is too early? For girls, any signs of sexual development prior to age eight may indicate a problem. Eight is still quite early and if a girl is showing symptoms she should probably be evaluated. What are the signs? In girls, l... more

A recent study published in The Journal of Clinical Oncology shows that some new cancer patients are having trouble remembering the details of the conversation they had with their doctor concerning their diagnosis. In fact, it was determined that many of these patients remembered less than half of what their doctor had told them. John McCain And GOP Say Most Americans Are Cowards

One of the goofiest things that happened during the 2004 presidential election was when a national poll asked Americans whether they would rather have a beer with George W. Bush or the Democratic candidate, John Kerry. A majority of those polled indicated they would like to hoist a Heineken with Bush -- how did that method of choosing a candidate work out for us? -- and we appear to be at it again, with this year’s version of that nonsense announced late last week. I’m sure yo... more

Has anyone seen any mention of the infamous Section 8 of the Paulson Bailout Plan mentioned in any major media outlet? Here’s the text just as a reminder: Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency. It is critical that this gain traction this week. Write every outlet you can think of to cover this massive power grab. ... more

This *.pdf file is an insert in all the utility bills here in Singapore. It’s absolutely mindboggling. I’m sorry it’s scanned sideways, but if your *.pdf reader can rotate it’s worth a look. This isn’t just talk about family values, this is a country that values (and needs) families. Let me add something of my own experience about fertility issues and national fecundity. Some of the things I always pay close attention to when I travel are ... more
