Over the next few days, Basket Bawful and Free Darko will be previewing each NBA Playoff series. Basket Bawful looks at the Western Conference today, finishing with the series between the San Antonio Spurs and the Phoenix Suns, which begins Saturday.
It is on, baby! After three years of being used and abused by their arch nemesis, er nemeses, uh, nemesises … whatever … the Suns traded the future and a piece of their very souls to bring The Big Lord of the Rings to Phoenix. And they did it for the express purpose of beating the Spurs. Now we get to find out if their plan is going to work, and it’s only the first round.
The season series: The Suns won it 3-1.
Bad news for the Suns: I’ve been avoiding all the obligatory “Man, the Western Conference is crazy!” exclamations in my previews, but man … the Western Conference really is crazy, isn’t it? The Suns finished exactly one game behind the Spurs, yet Phoenix is the sixth se...

Porter introduces Suns to defense | Suns / NBA | eastvalleytribune.com
TUCSON - It wasn’t quite Hickory High coach Norman Dale tossing the basketballs aside to start his first practice in the movie “Hoosiers,” but it didn’t take long for his charges to understand this is a whole new ballgame under Terry Porter.
There were your Phoenix Suns, spending more than half of the first workout Tuesday on defensive principles and the basics of a motion offense as training camp began at McKale... more
Whenever I lose a selection, particularly if I don’t have the opportunity to watch the game, I sift through the numbers to see if there was anything flawed in my analysis.
I liked Phoenix plus the five points in Game 4 of the Suns/Clippers series with the rationale that the Clippers 62-34 rebounding edge in Game 2 was an aberration. I was convinced there was no way that the Clippers would outshoot the Suns from the field in four straight games.
It wasn’t, they did, and I was sta... more
Hornets or Suns From: bigfooty.com Post Date: 2008-10-30 04:24:58
Which team is better? I suppose we’ll find out tomorrow. Last season, the Hornets had the better of the Suns, and I reckon this year will be no different. Clearly Shaq isn’t improving, and Nash isn’t going to get any better, nor is Hill. Sure, you can expect Stat to probably get better, but as a team I can’t see Phoenix really improving.
As for the Hornets, I’m expecting Paul, West and Chandler to have better seasons than last year. At the worst, I doubt they ... more

The first Overtime event will be after the Nov. 7 ... more
Spurs fall, waive Stoudamire
Locker-by-locker, man-by-man, Salim Stoudamire limped around the Spurs’ locker room, giving hugs and handshakes to the players who had been his teammates for three weeks.
He had come to San Antonio in hopes of making the Spurs, in hopes of reviving an NBA career that had hit the skids in Atlanta.
This was farewell.
Stoudamire was waived Wednesday night, after giving it a semi-heroic go on a strained left groin in the Spurs’ 100-95 preseason l... more

This is ugly: it’s barely even March and Red Sox and Yankees fans are already brawling. Apparently a Yankees fan made the mistake of wearing his favorite team’s hat into a bar in Cambridge, Mass., last Saturday, drawing the ire of four (presumably) drunk Red Sox fans. Soon after, the man and his girlfriend left the bar but were followed outside by the hooligans, where the ... more
