Do you have one that you think should be added to the collection? “only the man who believes thinks” At the risk of sounding harsh, there are realities that women need to face: not every tragedy matters. Not every extreme emotion is righteous. No man is ever truly going to understand what it means to be female, because they never will be female! (Plastic surgery aside) They don’t have to! I don’t see women walking around trying to understand men more. I don’t see us troubling over each injustice they might be facing. Reality is - we are different, and that is okay. Women are typically more emotional. Get over it. If you don’t like it - well, you are stuck with it. Learn coping strategies, set your priorities and values and deal with it. You CAN’T change it! In some ways, it isn’t fair - I agree - but life isn’t fair. People aren’t equal, and only living by the ideal gets us even half way there. I am a Thucydidean who believes that human nature is unchanging and only culture and civilization save us from our savage selves. When a hurricane or war overwhelms us suddenly looting, rape, and murder follow, almost like rust after a rain. Those who can, govern. Those who can’t, “question authority”. I am ultimately writing about evil “spirituality”, a mostly bogus category created for people who want to feel good about themselves without having to get up early on Sunday or give up activities to which they’re partial but most Churches aren’t. ‘Spirituality’ is pretty thin gruel next to your average ‘organised religion. If you were a 5-year-old boy standing in the London streets in 1897 for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee parade and marveling as the hussars and lancers of the mightiest empire the world had ever known passed before your eyes, it would have seemed inconceivable that you’d be celebrating your 80th birthday in a decrepit ramshackle broken-down strike-bound basket case of a state. Permanence is the illusion of every age. And, if you’re interested in a “dignified retirement,” you might want to give some thought to the shape of the world the day after tomorrow.
