Relying On the Chinese Either Way

When I read about the Chinese government’s big (more than half-trillion-dollar) plans for fiscal stimulus a few days ago, I wondered what this encouraging of Chinese consumption would do to their desire to invest in our Treasuries–i.e., that large credit line China’s been providing to the U.S. government all these years.  We’re used to relying on Chinese saving to fund our consumption; now it seems China wants to fund some consumption of their own. I know I haven’t been around much, but the political season has started and since Pandora Peaks has refused to announce her candidacy for President I have been out door belling for my backup candidate - Cobra Commander. His platform of total world domination, insane evil schemes, lower taxes, more beer and Parades, Parades, Parades is one that I completely support: Let’s be honest here, what America really needs isn’t hope - It’s a firm hand controlling our... more

Okay, I was late to the party on this one but it is worth it. In fact I need to ask those friends of mine who do drugs if this is what a “trip” is like. Here is how To the Point describes it. Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Red Army had an official choir composed of male soldiers and musicians. It still exists. The Red Army Choir performs throughout Russia to this day. Now consider the Finnish rock band called The Leningrad Cowboys. A little while ag... more

No other way to describe this other than as a brilliant, yet somewhat uncharacteristic, marketing tool to increase Newsweek’s readership with the male 13-19 demographic. It is far from titillating, but much to the joy of middle school males Newsweek is not going to be blocked on library computers. ... more
