Not A Priority For Business TravellersSource: http://www.businessc.us/business-careers/not-a-pri...Displaying mentions in this article, for full text please visit source. Last year only 1% of workers in the UK cut back on business travel to satisfy their company’s environmental policy, according to a study revealed today. The Barclaycard Business Travel Survey – which canvassed more than 3,000 business travellers – also found that only 1% said they were personally concerned about the environment. More than three quarters of respondents admitted they operate without a travel policy while a further 81% revealed their companies do not audit carbon emissions resulting from travel. Opinion was divided about who should be responsible for the effect of business travel on the environment: 35% said the government while 21% said it lies with the individual. Surprisingly, 42% were in favour of an environmental tax on airlines, of which 55% believe the cost will be passed on to the passenger. Denise Leleux, director of commercial cards for Barclaycard Business, said: “There is very little evidence of any significant shift in behaviour of business travellers in 2007 – despite the volumes of media coverage given to this area and the corresponding level of comment by business and the business community on a broad range of environmental initiatives. “One of the major issues arising is the lack of consensus among employers and employees about who should be taking responsibility and how. If we are to move forward and achieve significant change this should be the focus of attention – in the meantime we are seeing individuals taking action where they can.” Feeds and posts are not affliated with ://URLFAN.
