On to Game 2, and I don’t want to demean Chad Billingsley here, but he’s not tonight’s story. Don’t get me wrong - Billingsley ascended to become the true ace of the staff that so many had predicted he would be, and he was even better in the second half than the first, going 7-2 with a 2.99 ERA. That’s right, you heard me. Everything. I’m turning this team around. This team underperforms and costs me way too much. I can’t afford it. So I’m selling everything to get this team out of serious financial trouble. Fernando Martinez and Ruben Tejeda will be the hardest to get because they’re young. But they’re still available. I want prospects, prospects, and more prospects. Draft picks for this year work as well. PM or IM (I prefer IM) and we wil... more

Chicago Tribune Investigates Food Allergy Recalls
From: kidsfoodallergiesblog.com
Post Date: 2008-11-21 07:19:10

This investigative story on food allergies in today’s Chicago Tribune is heartbreaking.  The Tribune created an unprecedented computer database of 2,800 recalls related to food allergies over the last 10 years.   The Tribune investigation revealed two key findings: The government rarely inspects food to find problems and doesn’t punish companies that repeatedly violate labeling laws. I Can’t Believe We’re Looking For a Third Baseman
From: mikesciosciastragicillness.com
Post Date: 2008-03-12 20:27:23

Remember those oh-so-heady times of, say, a week ago? We had one third baseman too many! We had two third sackers both hitting .350 or above! What were we to do with all those third basemen? Ugh; how quickly things can change. So now not only is Andy LaRoche out for 8-10 weeks, but Nomar still isn’t playing after being hit by a pitch, and nominal backup Tony Abreu is still hurting enough that he’s got to go back to Philadelphia to visit his doctor after playing in only one gam... more

…. and the blood in the water. Well, it only took until March 9 for the rumors to start flying! With LaRoche out for 8-10 weeks, Nomar hardly the epitome of durability, and Jeff Kent 40 and already nursing a hamstring pull, the media is already circling. Now, I like to think that Nomar and Kent’s issues are just minor, and considering their ages and the fact that it’s still only March 9, the team is erring on the side of caution. Which, is of course, the entirely correct wa... more
So, Now What?
From: mikesciosciastragicillness.com
Post Date: 2008-03-08 15:04:49

The injury to Andy LaRoche could have a major impact on how the Opening Day roster shakes out, reaching far beyond just third base. Obviously, the third base competition has been quickly and bizarrely short-circuited, which is unfortunate because both Nomar and LaRoche had been having good springs at the dish. Barring a trade, Nomar is now going to be the Opening Day 3B, which means he won’t be serving in the “supersub” role that so many of us had thought he could excel in. ... more
