There’s been plenty of innuendo and chatter about Barack Obama’s religious affiliation and beliefs lately, but both Obama and rival Hillary Clinton have described their faith with little room for extrapolation in recent months. Here’s what they had to say. Christianity Today: Barack Obama: I am a Christian, and I am a devout Christian. I believe in the redemptive death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I didn’t ‘fall out in church’ as they say, but there was a very strong awakening in me of the importance of these issues in my life. I didn’t want to walk alone on this journey. Jesus likes gunpowder?
From: arizonarifleman.com

Today I discovered that Hodgdon Powder Company, manufacturer of Hodgdon, IMR, and Winchester powders, includes a blurb on their main page saying that their “purpose is to bring credit to our Lord Jesus Christ.” Evidently Jesus likes gunpowder. That’s sort of neat. Personally, I’m a bit put-off by a major powder manufacturer openly proclaiming their religious beliefs on their main website. I’m a very private person, and I consider religious beliefs to be a very perso... more

Lytle, a Baptist Preacher, was baptized as a result of his discussions with faithful Mormons on a social networking site, LDS.net (ex19k). He is 36 years old from Cincinnati.  Lytle joined LDS.net on Dec 9, 2007. Not long ago there was a middle aged Baptist Preacher was doings some soul searching. After his church closed, he started going to other churches. None seem to be a home. He went to a lot, but could not find one where the spirit was sending him. He even had a lesson with some ... more
Spending Time with the Church Fathers
From: catholicexchange.com
Post Date: 2008-10-09 22:00:49

A couple of years ago, I picked up a book on the Church Fathers, those leaders of the early Church who came within the first few generations after the Apostles. It was a heavy tome with small print; it seemed very intimidating and I never did get around to reading it. That is why I was so excited to get my hands on a copy of “The Fathers” by Pope Benedict XVI (Our Sunday Visitor, 2008). The material in this book is a slightly edited record of the weekly general audiences ... more

Presidential Material: John McCain and Barack Obama Every once in a while a comic book comes out that attracts the attention of the national media. This week we were lucky to have TWO! Unfortunately, neither of them has anything to do with comic books. I am of course talking about the pictured John McCain and Barack Obama comic book biographies from IDW.  What I notice right away is that John McCain kind of has a creepy grin thing going, like The Smiler from Transmetropolitan, while Obama looks ... more

McCain Loses Ground With White Working Class
From: feeds.feedburner.com
Post Date: 2008-10-10 13:29:02

The steel mills and coal mines of western Pennsylvania helped fuel the nation’s economic engine. Today, old factory shells and boarded-up storefronts stand as bleak reminders of those once-prosperous times. But the voters in working-class enclaves such as this still are a sought-after prize in presidential politics, and many are belatedly backing Democratic nominee Barack Obama. In the Democratic primaries, working-class whites consistently supported Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. Later po... more

McCain Gets Official
From: truthdig.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 17:39:11

John McCain has secured the Republican nomination with a projected sweep of the March 4th primaries. He was thought by many political insiders to be too independent to pull it off, but his march to the right appears to have been successful. It is fitting, therefore, that he is expected to visit the White House on Wednesday to further tie himself to George W. Bush. CNN: McCain swept all four contests in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island, giving him the 1,191 delegates needed to cli... more
