Jeffrey R. Holland, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles General Conference, April 2008 “Continuing revelation does not demean or discredit existing revelation. The Old Testament does not lose its value in our eyes when we are introduced to the New Testament, and the New Testament is only enhanced when we read the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. In considering the additional scripture accepted by Latter-day Saints, we might ask: Were those early Christians who for decades had access only to the primitive Gospel of Mark (generally considered the first of the New Testament Gospels to be written)—were they offended to receive the more detailed accounts set forth later by Matthew and Luke, to say nothing of the unprecedented passages and revelatory emphasis offered later yet by John? Surely they must have rejoiced that ever more convincing evidence of the divinity of Christ kept coming. And so do we rejoice.”

From: thirstytheologian.com
Post Date: 2008-12-03 06:56:16

F. F. Bruce titles a chapter in in his book, The Canon of Scripture , “The Old Testament becomes a New Book.” By this he means that with the coming of Christ it became a Christian book. Its meaning was illuminated so that it was no longer understood as merely a Jewish book, but as a book explicitly about Christ. And the Apostles plainly stated that this was so. According to the Acts of the Apostles, the early preaching of the gospel to Jews and God-fearing Gentiles was regularly mark... more

Is tithing an Old Testament law that no longer applies to New Testament Christians? If the law was fulfilled with the death and resurrection of Christ, then does tithing no longer apply? What about the theory that the law has no influence on tithing or New Testament giving? Tithing is one of the most challenged [...]... more

Ok - rough day!  I ate a nasty Caesar salad with anchovies at the Luxor last night.  Not pretty! I think anchovies are of the devil, or at least a regular meal in purgatory. Wrestle with me now.  I mean, the longer I’m called pastor/shepherd/discipler of people, the more I feel inadequate for the job.  The more I feel overwhelmed by the commission given by Christ.  “Make disciples!”  What?  What does that mean?  Are you a disciple?  What does a disciple look like?... more
