John McCain hasn’t given us much straight talk this election, but he has stayed surprisingly firm on his principled stand against unescessary subsidies for large commercial farms and against ridiculous ethanol subsidies. Problem is, the Upper Midwest is expected to be a key battleground in the upcoming presidential election. Is John McCain jeopardizing his chance of victory?
Maybe he is. But I’m glad there’s still a bit of the old John McCain showing through. When he opposed the Farm Bill earlier this year and Barack Obama made excuses for supporting it, I said McCain showed leadership. I’m glad he’s continuing to show leadership, if just on this one issue.
With Obama’s recent inability to hold his ground on much of anything (from FISA reform to offshore drilling), there is something appealing about McCain’s decision to risk the election for the sake of a principled position. I wish he’d do it more often on more issues, but I give him credit for this stand. I wi...

As a social conservative, I believe in the protection of
marriage, I am against abortion, and for the right to bear arms.
This is why I will cast my vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin on
November 4th.
First, let me say that I respect all of the presidential and
vice presidential nominees. I just feel that the McCain-Palin
ticket is the right direction for this nation. I cannot use my
precious vote to support a party that is pro-choice. Abortion kills
fetuses. "I believe that the true m... more
What would you say if I told you that John McCain associates
with terrorists???
.And that he even meets with them and discusses important
United States policies with them???.Guilt by
association???.So, if Obama is such a terrorist because he is
guilty by
association, then wouldn’t McCain do everything possible to
avoid
interacting with him???.By these rules, may not be a
terrorist, but he associates
with them and is "just as guilty" RIGHT???.So what do people

William C. Ibershof: "I am amazed and outraged that Senator Barack Obama is being linked to William Ayers’s terrorist activities 40 years ago when Mr. Obama was just a child. Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen."... more

Because what presidential election would be complete without an ailing, bearded dictator who has oppressed his own people for decades telling us how bad our country is?
Fidel Castro says a “profound racism” in the United States will stop millions from voting for Barack Obama in next month’s presidential election.

During the last few months, some site commenters have feared (or gleefully predicted) that an all-out right wing Rove-style assault would swing public opinion against Obama in the closing weeks of the campaign. The assault has commenced. If the best the McCain campaign can muster is a rehash of accusations that the public has already assessed and rejected, there isn't much to fear. The reality of looming economic disaster leaves voters with no time or patience for the politics of ... more
More twisted logic from the administration that keeps me in stitches nearly every single day.
From IHT:
WASHINGTON: The Bush administration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease.
The Agriculture Department tests fewer than 1 percent of slaughtered cows for the disease, which can be fatal to humans who eat tainted beef. A beef producer in the western state of Kansas, Creekstone Farms Premium Beef, wants to test all of its cows.

I ran across this recent article The Porn Myth in New York Magazine which comes to a rather disturbing conclusion..

First we had the White House declaring that its visitor logs were classified. Now, in yet another example of the “none of your damn business” school of government, it turns out the vice president has done the same.
A lawyer for Vice President Dick Cheney told the Secret Service in September to eliminate data on who visited Cheney at his official residence, a newly disclosed letter states. The Sept. 13, 2006, letter from Cheney’s lawyer says logs for Cheney’s residence o... more
Two examples of religious bigotry today, which helps illustrate the difference between individual and government discrimination.
First, in New Hampshire, an idiot confronted Mitt Romney.
Mitt Romney’s visit to New Hampshire started on a sour note Tuesday when a restaurant patron declared he would not vote for the Republican presidential contender because of his faith.
“I’m one person who will not vote for a Mormon,” Al Michaud of Dover shouted at Romney when the f... more
