Obama is a closet socialist (or communist, or other extreme leftist.)
Not even close . The timing of these accusations are a bit odd as everyone from the Financial Times to the Wall Street Journal have called this Republican administration’s recent actions a form of socialism just for the rich. Noted “socialists” Warren Buffet , Robert Rubin, Paul Volcker, and Lawrence Summers have all endorsed and have helped create Obama’s economic policies. Jordy Gunderson: I.O.U.S.A.From: jordy.gundy.org Post Date: 2008-11-03 14:37:07
UVU is showing an important (although significantly flawed) documentary tonight. “I.O.U.S.A.” is important because it highlights just how bankrupt we are as a country. It describes how our current debt and obligations (unless significantly curtailed) will enslave future generations for years to come, essentially charging the cost of our glut to our children’s and grandchildren’s credit cards.
“I.O.U.S.A” is seriously flawed because it entirely ignores... more Wonk ConvergenceFrom: pushback.org Post Date: 2008-11-05 10:20:37 One of the more pernicious memes as the election drew to a close was that President Obama will not be able to enact a progressive economic agenda once in office. This line of reasoning posits that pressure from newly-elected Blue Dogs in the Congress and the centrist financier class of the party will pull him toward more moderate, fiscally conservative policies. As Simon Rosenberg put it , there will be “a battle between a politics of investment versus a politics of austerity.”

Howard Zinn
I CONFESS I am excited by the thought of Obama becoming president, even though I am painfully aware of his limitations--his smooth, articulate intelligence covering up a quite traditional approach to domestic and foreign policy, aided and abetted by a group of advisers recycled from the Clinton administration and other parts of the Establishment.
Does he really think Robert Rubin will come up with a bold approach to the economy? Or that Madeleine Albrigh... more Warren Buffet Principals Apply to TechnologyFrom: usaeconomy.org Post Date: 2008-11-22 10:51:52 Warren Buffet enlightened us to the fact that the stock market is governed by fear and greed. But then he said people should actually be fearful when the market is greedy and greedy when the market is fearful. Similar opposing forces apply to the software industry. Technology is driven by reality and hype. People should look for hype when everyone is based in reality. During a boom, companies should come to reality quickly if they want to survive the bust.

A thoughtful CatholicFrom: 2parse.com Post Date: 2008-03-04 14:27:32 Gary Wills interviewed in The Atlantic several years ago:
You make the case for the importance of “loyal opposition” to official church positions that are nonsensical, unethical, or backward. “The job of a loyal Catholic,” you write, “is to give a support that is not uncritical, or unreasoning or abject, but one that is clear-eyed and yet loving.” What does that imply for a lay Catholic? Is simply continuing to attend mass and remaining part of the com... more Hope Wins the NightFrom: 2parse.com Post Date: 2008-03-05 13:14:12 I haven’t any posted anything today because I’ve been busy - not being I’m moping over the fact that after throwing “the kitchen sink” and everything else she could think of against Mr. Obama, Ms. Clinton managed to gain only ONE (1) delegate last night.
Obviously it would have been better in many ways if Ms. Clinton were shut out last night and forced to withdraw her candidacy. But Mr. Obama has now weathered another full-force attack of the Clintons a... more Reflections on WritingFrom: 2parse.com Post Date: 2008-03-12 06:19:38 Excerpts from my Journals
[Undated. From sometime in the spring of 2000.]
Eventually writing empties you.
There is nothing left to write, to think. You still feel, but without the weight of a past. The danger in emptiness lies in confronting the emotions hidden underneath the endless layers of the day to day.
What’s left is usually painful.
Writing is a meditative process used to instill clarity in the writer.
It is as essential as sleep or bowel movements.

Representative Steve King, Republican from Iowa, yesterday stated:
Obama will certainly be viewed as a savior for them [referring to Al Qaeda]…
I will tell you that, if he is elected president, then the radical Islamists, the al-Qaeda, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror.
Despite a rebuke from Mr. McCain, Mr. King is standing by his ... more
