JAOO 2008  coverage continues with Independant Software Consultant and Ruby expert Glenn Vanderurg sits down with UX Architect Josh Holmes to discuss dynamic languages and the importance of unit testing. With dynamic typing you can imagine that creating solid unit tests is of prime importance (of course, this is the case for statically-typed language composition as well...). Why are unit tests so important in the context of writing applications with dynamic languages? Tune in.

Well, it has been awhile since the ABS hammer-in in MT. I have just now tried all the things we saw. I made a D guard, on an earlier knife, and I played with the feather pattern and tried my hand at carving on this one. I think that the hammer is a good way to learn and build on skills. It took two or three try’s to get the feather right. I have some good ones on the bench. But I thought this one would be good for a laugh. Thanks Josh, Tim, and Harvey.

I’m also working on a 4x4 kit and got the LEDs working properly, but now I’m having button press issues. To be precise, no button presses are registering at all. My soldering looks good and I’ve made a couple of 40h kits with no problem, so I’m not sure what’s wrong. To be more detailed: I have headers and ribbon cable attached to the logic board. I spliced the ribbons and soldered the strands to the 4x4 keypad. The LEDs are all on the "LX1, LX2...LY4" slots and ... more
