This week’s Time Out New York features a list of 40 New Yorkers who have made a “positive impact on the city since TONY’s been around.” While we do like many of the people on their list, we felt compelled to make a list that the Idealist community might find more inspiring.
So here are the New Yorkers we’d love to interview, in no particular order. Please add more below and make our list 40 strong!
Rosario Dawson: Not only is she a fab actress, but she’s done work with loads of community groups, including the Lower East Side Girls Club , PFLAG , and Voto Latino .
Majora Carter: She founded Sustainable South Bronx , which combines poverty alleviation with environmental improvement—in the neighborhood and nationwide.
Danny Goldfield: His project, NYChildren , aims to photograph one child from every country in the world. All of them must live in New York City.

A few days ago, I participated in a one-day seminar called How to Write to Change the World put on by Catherine Orenstein of the Op-Ed Project . Orenstein is an experienced writer and op-ed contributor who wants to see more women participating in opinion journalism.

Saving the planet is easy!
The New York Times had an interesting Op-Ed about some wineries switching to…boxes! And you thought it was bad enough when bottles started going screw top or using plastic . It seems packaging wine in a box instead of a bottles makes it lighter and easier to transport:

On September 27, more than 200 young people and 20 organizations came together at the School of the Future in Manhattan for the Youth Action Fair, which Idealist put on with Do Something and Children for Children as part of the Service Nation Day of Action.
