A few weeks ago I wrote about the percentage of internet traffic that the three candidates receive using Alexa.com. Today I am going to use Google Trends which demonstrates whether Senator Obama or Senator Clinton is searched for more using the world’s most popular search engine. So what is the relevance of this particular data? Well I was reading the various articles about the two democratic candidates today and one commenter couldn’t comprehend how Senator Obama was able to raise such large amounts of money. This Google data shows that as of May, Senator Obama receives the greater number of searches compared to Senator Clinton. For example if a potential voter was looking for information on Senator Obama and typed in “Barack Obama” or “Senator Obama”, the very first link that comes up, is for the Senator’s campaign page. Once you go to the Senator’s campaign homepage you are immediately first taken to the contribution page as you a...

McCain closes his campaign site with the remarks from his concession speech. He also provides a link for those who want to leave him some thoughts. The following is an important quote:
I’ve always believed that America offers opportunities to all who have the industry and will to seize it. Senator Obama believes that, too. But we both recognize that though we have come a long way from the old injustices that once stained our nation’s reputation and denied some Americans th... more
Mr. Obama,
I have some questions and concerns about what your vision of America is and what you would like to see in the future.
First off, I wanted to say that I think you are an amazingly brilliant man with a fire that hasn’t been seen in the political arena in my life time. I [...]... more
Why, if you’re Barack Obama, would you choose Hillary Clinton to be your secretary of state?
Yes, since it was first reported last week that the two had met to discuss the possibility, there has been no shortage of theories in the press: He wants her out of the Senate and into a pliant administration post; he’s paying her back for conceding graciously and then campaigning for him; he wants to score points with women voters.
But if you ask some of the most prominent members of the Democr... more
Number of comments: 2 This will be the first time I mention the Fred2Blue blog - and no, that’s not a good thing.
Freddybluer Chris Guy commented on the possibility of Senator Clinton becoming Secretary of State Clinton, and found the obvious historical precedent - Lincoln’s appointment of Seward. That didn’t stop him from stepping [...]

Senator Clinton has been appointed to head one of three Senate working groups on health care reform by Ted Kennedy. This might strike people as a bit odd, considering everyone is certain that she is about to resign from the senate to become Secretary of State. Ben Smith concludes his article on the subject thus: “It looks, however, like Kennedy may need a new chair for his insurance working group.”
This, to me, is a strange thing for Smith to say. Kennedy made this announcement ... more
It struck me as strange yesterday when the distinguished ex-judge Abner Mikva took it upon himself to discuss the Clinton at State issue and allow himself to be characterized as a "close Obama supporter." The Obama transition team slaps Mikva down today : The transition communications director, Dan Pfeiffer, says Obama adviser Abner Mikva didn’t speak for the campaign in a Times story that went online this evening, in which Mikva appeared to set an almost impossibly high bar for ap... more

The change keeps coming!

If Barack Obama appoints Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State, it will send a cynical message to his supporters: that change is something they can still only hope for. Because if Obama relies on this unqualified Washington insider to fill one of the most important positions in his ‘outsider’ administration, it will represent neither change nor hope, ju... more
Starting today, Health Care for America Now is running ads in Washington, DC, reminding Congress and decision makers here in our nation’s capital exactly what happened on November 4th. Here’s the ad:
Barack Obama ran on health care, plain and simple. He repeated the message we’ve highlighted above all over this country in speech after speech. In the final month of the campaign, he signed on to Health Care for America Now’s vision for reform and spent 86% of his adv... more
Although the presidential elections in the US do not generate as many reactions as the French elections in Madagascar, the intrigue surrounding the democratic party's nomination provoked plenty of reactions on the Malagasy blogosphere. Seven posts, mostly centered around the Barack Obama phenomenon, in the past month led to 116 comments.
Some Malagasies are convinced that Obama is able to implement the unity he promised, both in the US and on in the international scene.

From a report on the TV news show 60 Minutes, here is more evidence that the “secret Muslim” rumors are hurting Barack Obama among some sections of the voting public, by tapping into fear of “the Other” among less educated Americans. For background, see my earlier post on the subject, “ My Middle Name Is Hussein .”
To his credit, when Obama is asked about the rumors and denies them, he doesn’t just say they are insulting to him as a Christian. He also points out that they are ... more
A couple of months ago (and several times up til now) I registered my displeasure with the fact that the primary assumptions resulting in many of the failed policies of the Bush Administration (and indeed the previous one) were not being questioned in the primary presidential debates or even in the major forums for debate on foreign policy. The particulars of neo-conservative philosophy were... more
Canadian Parliament asks PM Questions People ask me why I care so much about US elections, especially those South of the border. This is currently on the Barack Obama You Tube page. Still don’t think America’s politics has any impact in Canada? This of course relates to the NAFTA story and Obama giving us the heads up in advance of the Ohio debate. For the record, I am unaware of any Canadian "right wing operatives" working for the Republicans, but I personally went up to C... more
