This news is not surprising– David Beckham is the highest paid player in the MLS, according to the Associated Press . He makes fifty times more than the average player in the league.
This season, David will bring in $6.5 million in guaranteed salary. This is only his salary as a football player and doesn’t include any options, endorsements, etc. The next highest salary in the league is $2.6 million, which goes to Cuauhtemoc Blanco of Chicago. The average player gets $129,395 for the season.
I know this seems like a lot, but when one considers how much media attention and ticket sales David has brought to the league, even without his playing well or often, it’s probably a more than fair price.
