For the past week I’ve been using Ubuntu (via the Install Inside Windows option) almost full-time on my home machine. I’m digging it so far and am thinking I’ll re-install it as dual-boot to get a bit more performance (although it really runs quite well as the Windows Install as a perk of being on a Raptor hard drive).
I’ve had a few challenges along the way, but nothing too awful yet.
Smooth Fonts
The first couple days I feared going blind, but I finally stumbled over the Fonts tab in the “Appearance Options” settings. Switching over to the “Subpixel smoothing (LCDs)” and then going into Details and setting Hinting to Full has really eliminated all the initial pixelation/jaggies that were driving me nuts.
My article from 2 years ago on font smoothing ( Smooth Fonts for Ubuntu ) wasn’t quite as effective this time around — but now there’s a control panel thingy, so it’s al...

Sorry Twitter But It’s You, Not Me.From: feeds.feedburner.com

A month ago I was pondering social bankruptcy , but since then I really hadn’t made any changes–until today. The recent and frequent twitter outages have inspired me to give that service up cold turkey.
Outages = aggravation. Who needs aggravation? Not me.
I’ve seen a lot of folks excuse or apologize for the twitter outages by trotting out the “well, it is free” argument. Frankly, I call bunk on that. But, I’ll spare you my longwinded and rambling thou...

Yes, I realize this is the third FF3 post in a row, but It’s pretty much a “lazyweb” cry for help…
When I print from Firefox 3 RC1, I get garbage:
I’ve tried several printers. Not running any add-ons. Clean install of XP SP3 and FF3 RC1 is the first version of Firefox to ever go on this machine.
Anyone else had similar issues by chance? I’m not quite sure how to tackle this one.

I thought the new location bar stuff was my favorite new Firefox 3 feature. While still a contender, it turns out I have a new fave — the “Most Visited” toolbar menu.
You can see it quietly lurking at the left side of the bookmarks toolbar:
I think it was there when I was trying the betas, but I don’t recall ever actually using it. Now, after just 24 hours of using Release Candidate 1 , I’m already in love with it. It’s dynamic. It changes over tim...

Firefox 3 RC1 is now available. You want it just to enjoy the new location bar. It rocks. Really.
Question for the day: I’ve heard lots of people mention how much faster it is. Are they considering the lack of add-ons compatible with FF3? FF2 is a lot faster without add-ons loaded too!
Reckon I’ll go grab Nightly Tester Tools so I can use my beloved add-ons. Oh, and delicious has a beta add-on for FF3 already out.
