The IAM membership has
overwhelmingly rejected (87%) Boeing management’s “best and final offer” but union leadership delayed the strike for 48 hours to see if they could win any last minute concessions. Personally, I think the machinists are crazy to turn down the deal Boeing proposed. This strike looks to be a lose-lose for everyone. It will devastate workers and undermine Boeing’s competitive advantage with Airbus.
I doubt if there will be any 11th hour concessions from management. The
major sticking point seems to be the outsourcing of specific parts (especially for their new 787 Dreamliner) and Boeing could give some there but the union’s demands of zero outsourcing seem unrealistic. Besides there’s a 7-year backlog so there’s no immediate concern.
There won’t be much public support for the strikers either once people hear what they’ve turned down (for details see my

Clinton Comeback? Doubtful…From: fortwaynepolitics.com
Post Date: 2008-03-04 21:13:53
Hillary Clinton has
won Rhode Island and Ohio and currently has a slight lead in Texas. Speculation has long been that without victories in Ohio and Texas Clinton would drop out of the race. The Clinton camp called it their “firewall” strategy but it’s strikingly similar to the “Rudy” strategy where Rudy Giuliani put all his eggs into the Florida basket and couldn’t make up any ground after too many losses in the early states.

Readers from FWL might remember
my request to city council to create a Public Access Board to jumpstart the implementation of open government initiatives here in Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne Public 1 also wrote a letter to the mayor and the individual council members in support of the idea.
A few weeks ago, in response to this request, the council agreed to
create an ad-hoc task force comprised of councilmembers, mayor’s staff and citizen input. Councilman Harper has also pushed for the...

I don’t do much personal blogging - maybe an occasional snowboarding story or two but beyond that it’s strictly politics. I figure people visit FWP to discuss politics and not read about my personal life. However, I’m going to temporarily break that mold today because I’ve recently become a proud father and I decided to share that with you all (hey, it’s my blog and I can do what I want right?). Olivia Pruitt was born on Leap Day weighing 8lbs 3oz. HereR...
more Godwin’s Law Invoked On JG Immigration LetterFrom: fortwaynepolitics.com

I’m invoking Godwin’s law on yet another letter to the editor. For those that might not know
Godwin’s law state’s the following:
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
There is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically “lost” whatever debate was i...
