There’s a great piece over at the Rolling Stone blog today that talks about all the recent artists who took umbrage to Republicans using their music for their campaigns…primarily McCain/Palin. The best part of the piece though is the commenters who are upset with Rolling Stone being “the liberal media” that wonders why Rolling Stone isn’t “attacking” the Obama campaign for using someone’s music. Duuuuurrrrrrrr!!!!!! Just a few comments on the newest abortion of a “best of” list by the good people at Rolling Stone . First of all, I truly do understand, as most of us do, what they are trying to accomplish by making these stupid lists; Sell more magazines. It’s capitalism at its finest. Fine, they have every right to do so. My problem comes in when they consider their own mutilated opinions as gospel. Just because this publication says it doesn’t make it so. Motorists won’t be seeing actor, Daniel Dae Kim on the roads any time soon. The actor, who plays Jin-Soo Kwon in hit TV show, Lost, has been hit with a six month driving suspension following a conviction for drink-driving.  The 40 year-old actor was arrested last October after being spotted swerving and swaying in his vehicle whilst driving through Honolulu, making him the show’s third star to be picked up on D.U.I charges in Hawaii. Coming back from Iojima, a very nice island off the coast of Nagasaki, Japan, I saw a sign written in Hiragana stating a ship’s name: ‘biggu a—su.’ I immediately turned to my fiancée Aya—she is Japanese—asking her why anyone would name his or her ship Big Ass. Aya laughed and said that the ship’s name is Big Earth, not Big Ass. My Japanese is not that good but I can read Hiragana and understand some Japanese. My next question was, “If ‘biggu a—su’ is Big Earth, how ... more

MSG’s NYC Sound Tracks and the new-found hipness of subway musicians

Like many fellow New Yorkers, Brooklynites and bridge and tunnelers, I have been watching this show called NYC Sound Tracks . The premise of the show is quite simple, yet creative, innovative and New York-ish enough to have engaged me in their search for New York’s best subway musician. An underground talent search… Literally. Unfortunately, Theo Eastwind, my local fave on the L train Bedford stop didn’t make it into the final round despite my voting efforts. It’s ... more
