We promised you an update on the press conference Gov. Blagojevich scheduled this morning to respond to the budget passed by the state legislature over the weekend.
According to the Tribune 's David Mendell, Blagojevich wants to talk with the four legislative leaders about balancing the $2 billion deficit in their spending plan:
Saying that the General Assembly has handed him a budget that is “out of balance, out of whack,” Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Monday called for a meeting of legislative leaders later this week to reignite talks on a new budget.
Blagojevich, in a lengthy news conference outside his office at the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago, said the Illinois Constitution calls for a balanced budget, and the Legislature approved a budget Saturday that he estimated is more than $2 billion out of balance.
“This legislative process ought to continue because we do not have a balanced budget,” the governor said.
